Abstract	:	Image compression addresses the problem of reducing the amount of data required torepresent a digital image. The basis of the reduction process is the removal of redundant datawithout affecting the quality of the image. This can be achieved by reducing or, wheneverpossible, eliminating various types of redundancy that exist in the imaging data.Mammogram, or generally, most medical images are particularly attractive for imagecompression techniques due to their enormous storage requirements (250-300MB/patient/visit).In contrast to other type of images where a compression algorithm can be applied on the image.
